Glass Machinery Excavation is Hiring a Project Manager I Near Kingsport, TN

Glass Machinery & Excavation, Inc. is looking for a highly-motivated, self-starter to join our team as a Project Manager or Project Engineer*. The successful candidate will work at the direction of the Company’s senior leadership and will have broad ranging daily duties as necessary to each ongoing project. Glass Machinery is a heavy highway and civil site contractor serving southwest Virginia and northeast Tennessee for more than forty years. We offer a full benefits package to full time employees.
Project Manager/Engineer Responsibilities:
  • Assist with creation of cost estimates for the purpose of bidding project work.
  • Ensure all contractual documentation requirements are provided to the Owner including Certificates of Insurance, bonds, contact information, project schedule, and any other documentation prior to Notice to Proceed.
  • After prime contract has been executed, contract all subcontractors and suppliers to be used on the project.
  • Ensure each subcontractor’s or supplier’s pricing has not escalated between time of quote and time of contract.
  • Provide all required submittal documents to Owner for approval prior to purchasing materials. Ensure approvals are granted early for items with long lead time as to not delay construction.
  • Maintain lines of communication with field superintendents to stay apprised of changes in the scope of work or any issues that may require submission of an RFI or Change Order Request.
  • Track any changes to the scope of work as defined in the prime contract. Request and negotiate change orders as needed to ensure the Company is paid for the work it performs. 
  • Attend progress meetings as required. Track action items and drive to conclusion.
  • Write RFI(s) (Request for Information) when unforeseen conditions are encountered in the field or when design documents are not clear as to the intent of the design.
  • Coordinate third-party inspections on projects whereby the Company is providing third party inspection services.
  • Monitor project schedule and update as necessary. Communicate any delays to Owner and other stakeholders.
  • Travel out of town to project sites periodically to assess scope and progress. Overnight travel may be required.
Desired Qualifications:
  • 2 or 4-year Degree in Construction Management or Engineering.
  • At least five years of relevant work experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret civil drawings and specifications.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite of programs, e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project.
  • OSHA 30 certification.
  • Valid driver’s license.
